What is Prediabetes?

  • What is prediabetes? Prediabetes is having higher than normal blood sugar levels, but not high enough to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. It can put individuals with prediabetes at an increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

The Diabetes Prevention Program is a lifestyle change program that focuses on healthy eating and physical activity. Research shows that individuals with prediabetes, who participate in a structured lifestyle change program, can reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58%.

For more information regarding the program:

Time Commitment: The program is a year-long program, with the first 6 months having one-hour classes once a week, and the second 6 months, hosting classes once a month. As this is a lifestyle change, and an on-going process, the program duration plans for making healthy changes and finishes with a maintenance stage.
